10/22 Detailed Disassembly/Assembly
|
|
| If you are not able to perform basic disassembly, please visit this page first. | |
| 1. PERFORM BASIC DISASSEMBLY
|
|
| 2. BOLT DISASSEMBLY Locate the extractor on the right side of the bolt. Using a small punch, fully depress the pin and spring. Wiggle the extractor loose.

| Using a punch, carefully knock out the roll pin in the rear of the bolt. | ![]() |

| 3. TRIGGER GROUP DISASSEMBLY Before we get started on the trigger group, let's familiarize ourselves with some of the parts of the trigger group*. (Note: Some people out there in internet land may call these pins and parts by different names--I don't care, this is what I call them) *Wow, looks like I should've cleaned this baby first! |
![]() |
| Begin by taking the trigger group off "safe" and pulling the trigger. Insert a punch in the rear of the trigger and push the hammer spring up and out of the trigger group. | ![]() |
| Punch out the ejector pin and remove the ejector. | ![]() |
| Punch out the magazine release pin and pull out the bolt-hold-open plate from the top. | ![]() |
| Push in the piston that holds the rear of your magazine. While the piston is pushed in, pull the magazine release out from the bottom. | ![]() |
| Photo of piston and magazine release removed. | ![]() |
| Punch the hammer pin out of the trigger group. The hammer itself has a sleeve on either side that can be removed. A spring, as seen in the photo, will also come out with the hammer. | ![]() |
| Punch the trigger pin out of the trigger group. The trigger itself can be removed by simply flipping the group on end. A spring and pin will also come out of the rear of the trigger guard. | ![]() |
| Photo of trigger group close-up. | ![]() |
| The following step is optional (and can be a real bitch!) because it involves the safety mechanism of the rifle. You DO NOT want to mess up your safety, so if you proceed, please take extra caution.
|
|
| Ensure the safety is set to "fire". Using a punch or a small screwdriver, push down on the rear side of the safety mechanism. (See photo for reference) When it has turned 1/4-1/2 of the way, flip the trigger group over. | ![]() |
| This is a precautionary measure. There is a very small
spring and pin holding the safety mechanism in place. Unless the trigger
group is on-end, it will go flying to God-knows-where when you pull the
safety out.
Using a pair of pliers (or your hands, whatever) pull and rotate the safety mechanism out. The spring and pin should pop out and be under the trigger group. |

| Detailed Disassembly is now complete! Half of the battle is over--time to reassemble!
|
|
| 1. TRIGGER GROUP ASSEMBLY Insert the safety mechanism small spring and pin into it's hole. Insert the safety from the left side of the trigger group while depressing the spring and pin with a punch. Rotate safety until it fully locks in place/
|
|
| Put the trigger mechanism back together as shown in the
photo to the right. The small spring is inserted between the two detents
shown. The next step can be a pain. Push the spring and pin back into the hole in the rear of the trigger guard. While this is happening, insert the trigger through the top of the trigger group. Line up the trigger with the trigger hole. Re-insert the trigger pin. It's very easy for the trigger to come apart during this stage of assembly. I like to cheat by taping the trigger mechanism together, inserting it, pushing the pin in, then removing the tape. Alternatively, the spring and pin can be held in with tape while the trigger is inserted. |

| Push the piston and spring into the front of the trigger group. While the piston is depressed, insert the magazine release from the bottom. It will lock in place as shown in the photo to the right. | ![]() |
| Insert the bolt-hold-open plate from the top of the trigger group as shown. Insert the magazine release pin. The pin holds both the bolt-hold-open plate and the magazine release in place. | ![]() |
| Assemble the hammer. The longer end of the sleeves insert into the hammer. The spring is placed over the right hand side sleeve as shown in the photo to the right. | ![]() |
| Insert the hammer in position. Push the hammer pin back into the trigger group. The spring (highlighted in red to the right) sets into a small recess in the bolt hold open plate. | ![]() |
| Insert the ejector pin halfway. Place the ejector on the pin. | ![]() |
| Before fully pressing in the ejector pin, wrap the straight end of the spring under the ejector pin, as shown on the right. You can also see where the ejector fits neatly in it's slot. | ![]() |
| [awful photo, I know] Place the hammer spring in from the top. Line it up properly and check for function. Trigger group is now reassembled. | ![]() |
| 2. BOLT ASSEMBLY Place the firing pin spring back in the slot as shown on the right. Slide the firing pin in position and punch the roll pin back in. Ensure that the roll pin does not stick out of either side of the bolt. |
![]() |
| Place the extractor spring and pin back into it's slot. With the spring fully depressed, push the extractor back into position. Release the spring and check to ensure the extractor stays in place. | ![]() |
|
